A Yad is used to this day to follow the reading of the Torah in Synagogues around the world. Since the Torah is too holly to touch, the finger at the point is used for indicating the text. Usually, the Yad has a chain linked to it circling the wrist, joining the reader and the written word. This example of a Yad is brought from Morocco, with ornaments engraved in the brass, a unique choice of material for such piece. The design is typical to the Maghreb area- a region in North Africa known for its rich traditions and cultures.
