This oil painting is composed of two stages and 26 figures. The bar-mitzva boys are first called to the Torah and then proceed home accompanied by the congregants.
Gabbai was born in Morocco to a family of rabbis and kabbalists (his late father is in the kabbalist section of Tiberias) and immigrated to Israel in 1945 with the first pioneering nucleus from Morocco. He was a kibbutz member for 16 years and a regular army man.
Moshe Gabbai has been painting and sculpting since childhood. During his mission abroad on behalf of the state, he studied in Paris and qualified as a painting teacher
