It has the number 84 engraved on it, a number that indicated silver purity in the Russian Czar period since 1798. “Zolotniki” was the purity level unit, and 84 was the “Silver Standard Mark”, meaning it had 84 or more Zolotniki. These spoons were common in Russian established families as a sign of wealth.
